Psychotherapist/Cwnselydd MSc MBACP Music Therapist Dip. MT/Therapydd Cerdd
Feeling stuck? Looking for a way forward? I offer a free initial 30m session for us to get to know one another as I deal with you the person first and foremost. Our talking therapy will be in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Here are some of the things that bring people to me:
stress or anxiety built up over time
current life situations especially break-ups, divorce or relationship problems
bullying, abuse or experiencing racism
losing someone close to you (bereavement)
feeling 'stupid' that you can't control your thoughts
OCD or obsessive thoughts
eco-anxiety (climate change)
And sometimes anxiety and fear cause addictions, which I also deal with. I offer a sensitive and experienced ear to really hear you, being a Psychotherapist/Counsellor with an MSc in Counselling (Bangor University) and previous Music Therapist where I worked in an NHS team of Clinical Psychologists for14 years with young adults and children on the Autistic Spectrum and their families, and at Ty Gobaith.
I use tried and tested elements of different approaches in a Person-Centered, unique way for you. Research shows that CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) has plateaued on a 50% success rate some10 years ago. The World Health Organisation now recommends ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) skills for anxiety, trauma, stress and addictions. Evidence-based research shows up to 86% improvement.
As an ACT specialist, I have found that giving you ACT skills of how to process your thoughts in the here-and -now, combined with looking at where these thoughts may stem from is extremely effective. So the other approaches I use include looking at where your issues may stem from, for example, how we relate to our parents or significant people and experiences in our life and how we may carry those patterns still. Self-worth, significance and safety come into this.
Should you want support through an ongoing difficult relationship, having been through divorce and remarriage qualifies me to walk with you on your journey in a way that only experience can give.
I offer bilingual counselling (Welsh or English) via phone, virtually, or face-to-face from Caernarfon, North Wales. Sessions are £40 individual and £60 for couple counselling. Dw i yn cwnsela yn y Gymraeg - gweler hefyd y Cwrs Iechyd Meddwl Da ar dudalen 3.
I offer 50m of integrative talking therapy in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Integrative means that I will use elements of whichever approach I have that is most effective for you. Counselling need not be a long process to be effective but everyone needs to go at their own pace. Six to twelve weeks is usually the norm to see results in your life, but everyone is different. There are no quick fixes, however, I work in a very effective way as I combine exploring the issues in your life to see where their roots lie, with showing you the skills needed to deal with your particular thought processes in the here-and-now.
During my MSc studies I worked in placement at the NHS Primary Care Mental Health Counselling Service and for the North Wales Women's Centre (NWWC) in Rhyl doing face-to-face work there. I trained with CRUSE doing bereavement and grief counselling. I still work for the NWWC as well as doing private counselling and writing and running online ACT courses for anxiety.
